When is the best time to take a nap?

Those who are able to drop off for 30 minutes in the middle of the day might really benefit in terms of health, productivity and brain power. It turns out that the perfect time to grab some sleep is 3pm.

This happens because our circadian rhythm dips around 3pm. Many people already experience post-lunch sleepiness, which makes 3pm the perfect time to nap, according to the Independent. The ideal length of a nap is 20 to 30 minutes, because sleeping for longer than that can leave you feeling dazed for an hour after you wake up – also known as sleep inertia. Napping can be valuable if you didn’t manage to get enough sleep the night before, but overdoing it can actually make it harder to sleep that night.

Since an increasing amount of people is getting less and less sleep at night, naps might be more valuable than ever. Studies have shown that napping can have significant health benefits and can combat the effect of sleep deprivation. After napping, people are more alert and creative. Furthermore, their memory skills improve and they are less likely to make mistakes and get into accidents.

At the moment, the only companies that encourage napping are Google and Uber. This makes it harder for the rest of people who have to work during the ideal period for napping.
