If you eat from a crinkly plate, you might lose weight easier

The path to weight loss doesn’t refer strictly to what you’re eating, but also to how much you’re eating. This new plate design might trick your brain into eating less.

A crinkly plate, designed with ridges that help reduce the amount of food it holds could hit the market soon and assure weight loss, according to Express.

The plate looks like any other when seen from above, but it holds less food. It is also made from clear glass, which makes food look bigger.

Nauris Cinovics from the Art Academy of Latvia, the designer of the plate, is planning to test in on 100 people. Obesity experts welcomed the idea, saying that the new plate might be an alternative to just choosing smaller plates.

“My idea is to make food appear bigger than it is,” Cinovics said, according to the Guardian. “If you make the plate three-dimensional [with ridges and troughs] it actually looks like there is the same amount of food as on a normal plate – but there is less of it. You are tricking the brain into thinking you are eating more.”

Cinovics has also designed heavy cutlery. His spoon, fork, and spoon weighing 1.3 kg each. He unveiled his idea to the European Congress on Obesity in Porto, Portugal. Both the plate and the cutlery turn eating dinner into a more complex and longer process.
