These 4 foods can help improve your metabolism and make you lose weight

There are certain things you can eat that might give your body a boost to burn a few extra calories, but they will never be able to replace a good workout.

In an article for the Washington Post, registered dietitian Ellie Krieger explained that four foods – namely green tea, cayenne pepper, protein and whole grains – might help you in your fight to burn calories.

1. Green Tea

It contains polyphenols and caffeine which increase the number of calories and fat your body burns. A minimum of 250 milligrams of EGCG must be consumed if you want it to work – which translates to three cups daily of the highest-quality green tea.

2. Cayenne pepper

Studies recommend consuming 10 grams a day (almost 2 tablespoons). However, eating that much is nearly impossible, even if it’s spread out over three meals. But don’t worry, a smaller amount can be helpful as well.

3. Protein

Protein automatically burns 20 to 30% of its own calories during digestion.

4. Whole grains

During digestion, they also burn more calories than when you eat refined carbohydrates.
