This is a diet that has been around since the 1930s and a favourite among classic Hollywood stars, according to the Independent, and includes eating half a grapefruit before every meal. The diet is centered on the idea that grapefruits contain a fat-burning enzyme that boosts the metabolism.

This diet stems from the French concept of breatharianism, that supports the idea that air alone can keep our bodies active. It involves sitting in front of food, placing a piece onto a fork, holding it up to your mouth, but not eating it. Instead, you have to make do with water and salt soup.

Beyonce’s Lemonade Diet

In order to look so svelte in the movie Dreamgirls, Beyonce had to abandon all solid foods and survive on a concoction of lemon juice, maple syrup, cayenne pepper and water for 14 days. The mixture supposedly detoxifies the body – although this process happens everyday, unaided by diets – and stimulates tissue growth.
