Sunday evening a gunman left seven people dead and two more injured before being fatally shot by a local policeman.

The unthinkable happened on Sunday evening in the town of Plano, Texas, when seven people were found dead and two other wounded by a gunman who would be shot down by a police officer within minutes of the murders.

Authorities were called to the 1700 block of West Spring Creek Parkway near Custer Road around 8pm with gunshots reported in the area. As a nearby officer responded he heard gunfire upon his arrival. The officer acted immediately once he reached his destination, and seconds later saw people laying in blood as he entered the home the gunshots had came from. Moments later the officer fatally shot the gunman, whose name has not been released by authorities, without any harm coming to himself.

Regarding the first officer to arrive at the scene, police spokesman David Tilley said that he made entry, and that’s when he observed several victims inside, then engaged the suspect. The victims, who have not been publicly identified, were all adults. According to neighbors, they were all watching the Cowboys game when the violence began.

“I’ve been here all my life,” Tilley said, referring to the town of Plano. “I’ve never heard of anything like this.” The two people in the home who were injured were hospitalized; their conditions were not known at the time of this report.
