Police: The arrests after Manchester attack were “significant,” important items found
British police have made significant arrests and have uncovered important items as they investigate a suicide bomb attack which killed 22 at a music concert in Manchester, the head of the city’s police said.
UPDATE: British police said on Thursday that a bomb disposal unit was helping with the search of a property in Withington, south Manchester, in connection with a suicide bombing earlier in the week which killed 22 people.
The search follows the arrest of a person in Withington on Wednesday night.
UPDATE: British police said on Thursday they had raided a house in Wigan, northern England, which was now being searched in connection with the suicide bombing in Manchester on Monday.
Police arrested a man in Wigan, a town 17 miles to the west of Manchester city centre, on Wednesday.
“Following this arrest a house in Wigan was raided this morning and is currently being searched,” Greater Manchester Police said in a statement on Twitter.
Greater Manchester police are holding eight people in custody, having released a woman without charge on Thursday.
“I want to reassure people that the arrests that we have made are significant, and initial searches of premises have revealed items that we believe are very important to the investigation,” police chief Ian Hopkins told reporters.
“These searches will take several days to complete.”
