Religion, important for only 30 percent of Britons

Britons place little importance on faith or religion, according to the 2017 Ipsos MORI survey of global trends. Other polls show that even religious Britons do not take literally the scriptures.

According to the Ipsos MORI survey, 30 percent of Britons feel that religion is important to them, compared to the global average with is 53 percent.

The Japanese place the least importance on religion (22 percent), followed by the Swedes (29 percent) and Belgians (27 percent).

Indonesia is the country where religion is important for the highest percentage of citizens – 93 percent, while the US stands at 68 percent.

How many Britons believe in the resurrection of Jesus Christ

A poll commissioned by BBC, around Easter time showed that half of Britons do not believe in the resurrection of Jesus Christ, while two-thirds of under-25s do not take the resurrection story seriously.

Among the disbelievers 23 percent were professing Christians and 5 percent regular churchgoers.

Belief in life after death stood at 46 percent, highest for Christians (61 percent), non-Christians (69 percent), and active Christians (85 percent).

65 percent of respondents said they believe that the soul lives on in heaven or hell, while 32 percent believed in reincarnation.

Also, an Opinium Research study showed that ethnic minorities remain more likely than white Britons to select religion as the principal component of their identity (19 percent).

Ethnicity was the main component of their identity (36 percent), whit nationality coming second (30 percent).

Among the white Britons, religion was the main element of identity for just 7 percent.

59 percent choose nationality as the main component of their identity, 15 percent choose local community, and 7 percent ethnicity.
