President Trump has fired FBI Director Comey
Trump says Comey’s firing ‘will mark a new beginning for the FBI”.
Tuesday afternoon, the Trump administration announced in a statement that it has fired FBI James Comey. This comes shortly after Comey was corrected for his remarks related to the re-opening of the Hillary Clinton e-mail investigation last October.
Comey recently testified on Capitol Hill about the FBI’s investigation into Russia’s meddling in the 2016 election and possible working relationships between Russia and Trump’s campaign.
The White House says the search for a new FBI director will begin immediately.
Comey’s tenure at the FBI will me defined by controversial re-opening of the Clinton e-mail investigation just two weeks before the 2016 election, a move that many believed shifted the vote, especially with Republican moderates, dramatically and unfairly to the Trump camp.
Comey was appointed to FBI Director in 2013 by former President Obama.
