“We do not need to test any more cladding.”

In the wake of the Grenfell Tower blaze and the revealing of test after test showing that cladding being used nation wide is not actually safe the National Housing Federation chief executive David Orr has stated that it is now time to stop testing cladding and get on with making people feel safe in their homes once more.

Mr Orr appeared on Newsnight and spoke with presenter Evan Davis about how after 120 different samples have failed the fire safety tests that it is clear no one is going to feel comfortable living in a home that has such cladding as part of their home and that the priority should be making people feel safe and secure in theirs homes.

Now while that should be a priority and I agree with such. I do not think that should also mean the tests comes to an end. In fact the tests should continue on. They should continue because it should show how many times those within places of responsibility and influence actually choose money over safety. That the value of peoples lives was either not considered or out right ignored in the need and greed to save money.

Such mistakes should not be over looked or ignored. The tests should not be stopped to in my mind perhaps prevent the knowledge of how far this choice for money over people spread nation wide. This to me now sounds like a way to damage control a situation and prevent more accurate figures leaking out.

Let the truth as much as possible speak for itself. There will be people in this country unaware of what cladding has been used on their homes and should they to not know the truth? Ignorance they say is bliss but it seems many wish the ignorance to be of others and not themselves.

Any and every building that has cladding as part of it’s structure should be tested. Every person should feel safe, they should feel their children are safe that their parents are safe.

“A lot of time and energy going into moving kit and equipment around the country to do the tests.Let’s not do that. Let’s take a step back.and prioritize exactly what we do to make people feel safe and secure at home.” Is one of the several statements made by Mr Orr during the show. I wonder how he would feel if his home had the same cladding whether he would be so sure the tests should stop.
