Bloomberg predicts Trump re-election victory in 2020 — here’s why

Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg predicted that President Donald Trump will be re-elected in 2020, should he decide to run again. And it appears as though Trump does plan to run again. He already filed his Federal Election Commission paperwork for the next U.S. presidential election.

Bloomberg, who was no fan of Trump during the 2016 election, explained to CNN’s Anderson Cooper on Tuesday why he believes that Trump will get re-elected.

One of the reasons Bloomberg gave was that “the incumbent always has the advantage.”

Bloomberg added that “it depends what the world is like in three and a half years,” but that “if the economy is good,” Trump’s chances at serving two terms look pretty good.

“He had roughly 50 percent of the public vote [in 2016], little less, but in the right place. He got elected because of the Electoral College. But roughly half the people wanted him to be president and if it turns out that he’s OK, some of the half that voted against him because they thought he’d be a disaster probably wouldn’t think that anymore, so that would help him,” Bloomberg said.

As for Trump’s opposition in 2020, Bloomberg said Democrats will be “torn apart by the Left and centralists.”

“Now, the Republican Party is also being torn apart between the centralists and the hard right, but they rented a candidate. The candidate has rented a party, and they will probably, without much of a fuss, get behind Donald Trump, I would assume, assuming he runs for re-election,” Bloomberg said.
