Van attack is being investigated by London authorities as an act of terrorism

British authorities said on Monday that an early morning attack near a London mosque was being investigated as a terrorist act against Muslims, fearing retaliation for recent assaults in the country credited to extremists of Islam.
Just after midnight, a van ploughed into pedestrians close to the Finsbury Park Mosque, which is in North London, and a nearby community centre was responsible for preventing an angry group of people from beating the driver of the van after worshipers apprehended him.
One person died at the scene and at least 10 injured. Authorities could not say if the death was a result of the attack. Authorities identified the driver of the van as Darren Osborne, a 47-year-old man from Cardiff, Wales.

Little is known about Mr. Osborne or the motive behind the attack. Jo Stevens, a member of Parliament for the Cardiff Central constituency, asked the public for any information about Mr. Osborne, also saying people should not believe reports online that share opinions instead of facts.
