Malcolm Turnbull roasts Donald Trump at Australia’s equivalent of Correspondents Dinner

The Prime Minister of Australia was caught on tape while mocking President Donald Trump. The two have a tense relationship since Trump hung up on the Prime Minister, early after taking office.

Malcolm Turnbull attended the Mid-Winter Ball in Canberra, Australia’s equivalent of the White House Corespondents Dinner with the notable difference that the event is strictly off-the-record. But according to The Daily Mail, one reporter, Laurie Oakes, filmed the Prime Minister while he was mimicking the president of the United States.

Turnbull talked about the notorious phone call he had with the president saying, while imitating Trump that “It was beautiful, it was the most beautiful putting-me-at-ease ever”.

He also made fun of Trump‘s bragging about winning the election and being ahead in the polls. Turnbull also talked about the alleged Russia ties saying, in a voice mirroring Trump that ‘I have this Russian guy,’ while the crowds roared with laughter.

The leaked tape could cause some international grief since Donald Trump is likely to respond on Twitter given the fact that he does not take kindly to being imitated.

Most recently, Trump lashed out at Alec Baldwin for his impersonation of him during Saturday Night Live sketches.
