In 2016, the number of plug-in cars registered a 60% increase. This is impressive, considering that five years ago there were barely any such vehicles available on the market.
According to a new report from the International Energy Agency, we will see around 150 million electric cars on the roads by 2030, if the global climate change is kept within a 2-degree window.
However, things can change really quickly. Current growth rates are being achieved with a combination of low-range electric cars and some plug-in hybrids, so the imminent launch of models capable of hundreds of miles on a charge will offer a vehicle option for most lifestyles and family budgets, according to Tree Hugger.Tesla alone is planning on producing 500,000 vehicles a year by the end of 2018.

The IEA’s report assesses the quick growth rate of electric vehicle industry and offers insight regarding the evolution of the electric car market. But we should take their prediction with a grain of salt, as five years ago, they also predicted a massive growth in coal burning by 2017 and that didn’t exactly become a reality.
