Scotland – what the general election means?
For centuries Scotland has been in a situation where another country has controlled its affairs. After the execution of their rightfully appointed Queen (Mary Queen of Scots), by Queen Elizabeth I, Scotland has been at the mercy of a dictatorial neighbour.
The Union of the Crowns in 1603 saw English nobles and courtiers beginning to implement English cultural values onto Scotland. The much attested Union of the Parliaments in 1707 saw noblemen sell the culture and protection of the Scottish people to the English. There have also been the likes of Oliver Cromwell who enslaved the Scots, and much to the delight of Lucy Fraser MP, sent ‘Scots as slaves to the colonies’. Are the Scottish people now the only ethnicity on earth that can be racially attacked without recourse?
The identity of Scottish people has been obfuscated over time. Scotland has seen language, education and health care controlled by our larger neighbour south of the border. It begs the question why would the Scottish people want to be derided and humiliated in such a way. The answer is of course that Scotland’s has been infiltrated and it’s culture crushed over time to leave a nation that is hobbled and diluted.
The Tories have seen a steep increase and what this shows is that financial security for the few is more important than the dignity of their nation. For those who voted Tory it must be brought into question what they align themselves with. This sense of national dignity cannot feature highly in their vision of the future. Instead, they brush it off with the usual – ‘it’s only politics don’t worry about it. When in actual fact they know the deep-seated nature of their country’s oppression.
The nature of politics has definitely shifted as of yesterday. We see announcements being made that the Tory party will form a coalition with the DUP. Are we seeing the gradual Ulsterisation of Scottish politics? Whatever happens, we are surely in for an uncertain future as our government is implementing a very dangerous strategy that brings into question democracy itself.
