Opinion: Trump impeachment becoming more likely

Several weeks after Democratic Senator Al Green first broached the subject of impeachment to the House the movement is beginning to gain some momentum.

It was several weeks ago now that Texas Representative Al Green called to look into impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump, and has for a long time been an opponent to the US President.

Now another voice has joined his. California Representative Brad Sherman has now joined his Democratic ally in an official call to start impeachment proceedings. With the Republicans so heavily represented within the House it seemed at first to be a long-shot unlikely to bear fruit.

Not long after the initial discussions, however, an unlikely voice offered potential fuel for the fire. Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, said in an interview with MSNBC that it “obviously” was not appropriate for the President to ask for loyalty from former FBI Director James Comey.

With Comey’s testimony due today, and one of the most powerful Republican voices seeming to agree that the President’s actions were not appropriate, then there is a large change that Senators Green and Sherman may hear extra voices joining their call sooner than expected.

Comey is due to give his testimony in less than an hour, and we’ll have far more information then.
