Khuram Shazad Butt, 27, and Rachid Redouane, 30, are two of the three men responsible for the terrorist attack on London Bridge and Borough Market on Saturday. Butt, who was known to police, is of Pakistani ethnicity, and lived with his wife and children, while Redouane is British born, but claimed to be Moroccan. Both men are from Barking.
The names were released today by London Metropolitan Police after the information was cleared of compromising further intelligence into the ongoing investigation.
Prime Minister Theresa May today said the attack was an “attack on the free world,” while London mayor Sadiq Khan said it was “perverse” and that the ideology followed by the attackers had “no place in Islam.”
The national threat level remains on high, indicating that another attack is likely. Police presence has been heightened in certain parts of London.
According to Assistant Comissioner Mark Rowley, Butt was known to the police, but there was no evidence of planning an attack. Comissioner Rowley added, “‘The security and intelligence services and police have stopped 18 plots since 2013, including five since the Westminster attack two months ago.”
Police have urged anyone with information to report any suspicious information by calling 0800 789321, or in an emergency calling 999.
