Teenage girl accused of stabbing Uber driver to death
A teenage girl in Chicago is accused of stabbing an Uber driver to death, News.com.au reports.
16-year-old Eliza Wasni allegedly walked out of a supermarket holding a machete and a knife that she had stolen, climbed into an Uber car and started stabbing the driver, 34-year-old Grant Nelson. The driver survived the attack, but died of his wounds a few hours later, not until he gave the police a description of his attacker, though.
Immediately after his attack, Nelson was able to pull over and ran into a nearby condominium building, where he screamed, “Help me, help me! I’m going to die!” until residents called 911. The officers were then able to locate him by following the trace of blood. Eliza, on the other hand, climbed into the front seat of Nelson’s car and drove away, only to later jump out of the vehicle and feel on foot.
The judge ordered the girl, charged as an adult with first-degree murder, held without bond.
“We are heartbroken by the loss of one of our partners. Our deepest sympathies and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” Uber said in a statement.
