With tensions escalating with North Korea higher than ever before, the United States has decided not to call a UN Security Council Meeting, stating that there is “no value” and unwilling to challenge the communist nation. On Friday, North Korea tested a second ICBM (Intercontinental ballistic missile), three weeks after it’s first test.

Tensions are escalating, and the whole world is questioning what the North Koreans will do next. That answer was given on Friday, sending experts and UN members into a debate as to what can be done in order to avoid a war with the hermit kingdom.

On Friday, North Korea tested it’s second intercontinental ballistic missile, just three weeks after the first, which was launched on America’s independence day, calling it a gift to the “American Bastards”. North Korea’s capital, Pyongyang, stated its test proved that all of the United States is in range of a missile, with the United States responding by flying b-1 bombers over the Korean peninsula with South Korean and Japanese planes on Saturday. The United States has also ignored objections from China to install the Thaad (terminal high altitude area defense) system in South Korea. It’s aim is to shut down any missiles fired at the South from the North.

In the wake of the missile tests, the United States has decided not to call a UN Security Council Meeting. US ambassador Nikki Haley stated that such a meeting would send a message to North Korea that no one was unwilling to challenge it. She also stated that a meeting would send a message to North Korean leader, Kim Jong Un, that the international community is “unwillingly to seriously challenge him.” A risk no one wants to take. “Time for talk is over” Haley stated in referring to China’s relation with North Korea and urged China to take steps to guide North Korea into not launching any kind of missiles.

China was also criticized by US President Trump, stating that they had not “done enough” to stop North Korea’s weapon programs. He also stated on Twitter that he would not let China “do nothing” with North Korea, urging for talks between both nations. China condemned the missile launches, which landed in Japanese waters, and urged for restraint. It is also North Korea’s last remaining ally, sharing a border with the isolated nation, and having economic ties.

With doubts on North Korea’s missiles, South Korea has stated that Friday’s ICBM launch shows advancement in North Korea’s technology. A cause for concern. So far the ICBM’s launched have the capability of landing somewhere. The Hwasong, has the ability to go 1,000 KM, with the ability to hit China. The Nodong goes to 1,300 KM, with the ability to reach China and Japan. The Musudan can go up to 3,500 KM, and can reach Japan, China, and Russia. Situations get worst with the Hwasong-14 reaching 6,700 km, with experts believing can hit up Alaska and Hawaii. Lastly, the only untested missiles, which have many concerned is the KN-08, which goes up to 11,500 KM, and has the power to hit major American cities, such as Los Angeles, Denver, Chicago, and possibly even New York City.
