Pakistani PM Nawaz Sharif dangles back to position after great investigations
Panama Leaks 2014 besieged the Pakistani PM Nawaz Sharif in a grave difficulty along with his three family members on the basis of the wealth not showing on his family’s wealth statement. PM Nawaz Sharif however broke the stranglehold and remained at his position after great investigations.
Panama Papers 2014 contributed greatly to opening secrets of many hidden wealth owners. It further put the Pakistani political face (Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif) in great trouble. The Leaks from 2014 proposed that three of his children were owners of offshore industries. When this family was accused of its money not showing resources, it was ordered to take in-depth investigations and analysis on the case.
In October 2016, the case was brought up and took a serious toll on Mr. Nawaz Sharif. The Court went through documents of thousands of pages and heard lengthy arguments from lawyers of both sides. On one ocassion during the process Pakistani PM had to submit the original copy of a trusteeship signing when his daughter(Mariam Nawaz) was alleged of owning two offshore companies, the document submitted was gone through a few times when the document examiner Robert. W. Radley identified the font type as ‘Calibri’ that was not officially available before 31st January 2007 and he further quoted with the conclusion of JIT(Joint Investigation Team)”Maryam Nawaz Sharif was (and probably still is) the real and ultimate beneficial owner of the Avenfield properties”, it adds that the “claim of… being the ‘trustee’ was an attempt to mislead” the court.
Later in 2017, on the appeal of Nawaz Sharif the matter was decided in the Supreme Court of Pakistan where the Prime Minister denied his own blood relatives. After long term hearings and discussions the decison was locked. Petitions were signed by many small political groups and Mr. Imran Khan (Chairman of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf) who protested for 4 long months in front of the court for the resignation of Mr. Prime Minister on the basis of rigged elections. The Supreme Court rejected all petitions as they declared most of them to be based on emotions rather than facts. PM Nawaz Sharif took a sigh of relief when he was not deposed and was allowed to complete his tenure. In the line of events that occurred the chances of Mr. Nawaz Sharif winning the next elections are not very likely.
