Evidence that a US cop has been planting drugs has emerged

The officer is set to be formally investigated

A Baltimore Maryland native, who was convicted of the possession of narcotics this past January, has had all charges dropped against him, after video footage emerged of a cop falsifying evidence in the case. From the Baltimore Sun, “Baltimore police and prosecutors have launched investigations after being alerted to body camera footage that the public defender’s office says shows an officer planting drugs. The footage is from a January drug arrest. It shows an officer placing a soup can, which holds a plastic bag, into a trash-strewn lot. The officer can then be seen walking to the street, where he flips on his body camera.”

It transpires that the cop did not account for a feature on his body camera that records 30 seconds of video (minus the audio) before the camera is activated. The 30 seconds in question showed the cop planting the can of ‘evidence’ before returning to ‘find’ the can, which had a bag full of white capsules.

T.J. Smith, a police spokesman, had this to say, “We take allegations like this very seriously and that’s why we launched an internal investigation into the accusations. We are fortunate to have body-worn cameras which provide a perspective of the event.” The unidentified victim of this case, had a $50,000 bail set which he couldn’t afford to pay, leading to his 6 month prison stretch, at which point he was to be found innocent. At present, the accused officer in this case, is currently being investigated by the internal affairs division of the Baltimore Police Department.
