Jucker praises German police, people of Hamburg
The European Commission’s President Jean-Claude Juncker thanked German police for their work during the G20 summit, where thousands violently protested on the streets of Hamburg.
In a statement to German news agency DPA, Jucker said the criticism voiced in hindsight is unjustified and incomprehensible.
“Every single police officer put their lives at risk. This deserves recognition, not criticism. The people of Hamburg who lent a helping hand in the clean up operation on Sunday also deserve our fullest respect and appreciation: Hamburg at its best! Let me also say that Chancellor Merkel steered the work with prudence and firmness. My congratulations!” Jucker said.
