Los Angeles Tops The Hate Crime Chart
Hate crimes have always had a devastating impact on families, communities and groups. California state leads the nation with maximum hate crimes in the United States. Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco lead California’s hate crime chart as per the newly released California Department of Justice report.
There has been a rise in hate crimes from last year, with significant increase in incidents in the second half of 2016 following the US Presidential elections. Crime events increased 11.2 percent from 837 in 2015 to 931 in 2016.
HATE CRIMES BASIS RACE
Racism still divides black and white America. Black Americans experience discrimination today after so much progress in civil right reforms.
21.3 percent increase in racial hate crimes from 428 in 2015 to 519 in 2016
Crimes against African Americans went from 231 in 2015 to 251 in 2016
For Latinos, crimes increased from 60 in 2014 to 81 in 2015
HATE CRIMES BASIS RELIGION & SEXUAL ORIENTATION
The largest increase in crime was seen for the Anti-Jewish and anti-Muslims
Attacks against transgender people saw a sharply rise. Anti-gay attacks increased from 108 in 2015 to 152 in 2016
The DOJ report also found that majority of these hate crimes go unreported to the authorities, with rates being the highest in urban areas.
