Tensions flare at G20 summit

World leaders descended on the North Port City of Hamburg to negotiate at the G20 summit. 20000 police were on hand to deal with thousands of protestors as Trump, Merkel and May attempt to salvage the failure of the EU.

Trump, Merkel and British PM Theresa May gathered in Hamburg to attempt to salvage some common ground at the G20 summit. Close to 100000 anti-capitalist protestors gathered outside the summit venue and large swathes of police were brought in to deal with potential trouble. Thousands of the protesters had already been labelled as being potentially violent by intelligence agencies.

The hope to find common ground on the Paris Climate Agreement – that Trump has disowned – and trade deals, were central to the talks. Merkel is aiming to have another term in office and such an outpouring of discontent is not what she needs to secure her reelection.

The discontent with the failed capitalist plan conjured up by Brussels is reaching a crescendo. Merkel has insisted that open trade and cooperation with the US is central. She raised concerns about the Trump administration and its newly acquired ‘protectionist’ approach.

At least two protestors have been injured and further casualties are expected. The public have reacted with tweets and Facebook posts saying ‘If we need 20000 police to protect our leaders then there is definitely a problem.’

This G20 summit will definitely be about harm limitation, but it looks as though the EU is on a downward trajectory. This will likely be the beginning of large-scale unrest caused by the failure of the EU master plan.
