18-year-old sentenced to 13 years in prison for pimping underage girls in California

An 18-year-old girl from California was sentenced to 13 years in prison for pimping and trafficking younger girls, according to CBS.

Jelinajane Bedrijo Almario was arrested in Hanford in May 2016, as the Sacramento Bee newspaper reports. She was handling a human trafficking ring, sending threatening emails to a family member of at least one of the girls and making terrorist threats. She was the prime suspect in a pimping ring involving girls that were 14 and 15 and received the sentence two days after her birthday.

Almario posted pictures of the girls on different prostitution websites before taking them to motels to have sex, according to Hanford police Detective Richard Pontecorvo. She found the girls with the help of friends, acquaintances and social media. “These people are great at locating kids with low self-esteem and trying to be their friend, and then it obviously changes once they started working for her,” Pontecorvo said.

The case was surprising for the residents of Hanford, considering that Almario was a juvenile prime suspect. “It was a huge eye-opener for us,” he told the newspaper.
