Terminal at London’s Heathrow Airport evacuated after reports of fire alarms – UPDATE

Terminal 3 at Heathrow Airport is being evacuated amid reports fire alarms are going off.  Several travellers posted on messages and photos on social media of hundreds of people exiting the building at the London Airport. 

UPDATE: There is no fire at London’s Heathrow, the airport said on Tuesday, after an alarm which led to a brief evacuation of its Terminal 3 building.

“Our teams have investigated and there is no fire in T3 despite the alarm. Passengers will be directed back into the terminal shortly,” Heathrow Airport, which is Europe’s largest airport, said on Twitter.

UPDATE: Heathrow Airport announced the situation is investigated as a matter of urgency.

UPDATE: Bystanders also reported hearing sirens and seeing police cars arriving at the scene, according to a London Evening Standard report. Passengers were told to evacuate the terminal after alarms went off throughout the terminal.


One Twitter user, Ben Smith, wrote: “London Heathrow Terminal 3 currently being evacuated. Fire Alarms going off. Lots of confusion.”

The terminal handles 50,000 passengers a day flying on multiple airlines, including Virgin Atlantic, Emirates, Singapore Airlines and some British Airway flights.

Around 250 flights arrive and depart at the terminal each day.
