Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Shooting Leads to One Death, Six Injured According To Police
A former doctor of the Bronx-Lebanon Hospital returned to his former workplace to open fire, injuring six people and killing another.
The last day of June proved to be a gloomy one for the Bronx in New York.
Dr. Henry Bello entered his former workplace, the Bronx-Lebanon Hospital, and opened fire shortly before 3 p.m. He had a rifle under his white lab coat and removed it once he reached the 16th floor of the hospital. He also made his way up to the 17th floor of the building before the chaos finally ended.
Six people were injured, five of which are still in serious condition and another that suffered a gunshot wound to the leg. All of these injuries occurred on the 16th floor. A female physician was the only victim on the 17th floor, and she was found dead at the scene. Dr. Henry Bello was also found on the 17th floor, dying from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. There was no clear motive for Dr. Bello’s actions, and records did not reveal the last time Dr. Bello had been employed by the hospital. Dr. Bello has had recent issues with the law over the last dozen years, including cases involving sexual harassment.
New York Mayor Bill de Blasio said this was an isolated incident and was not related to terrorism. Authorities are still investigating the situation.
