Incident in Marseille. Car rams into bus shelters. One dead, one injured

An incident unfolded in Marseille’s Old Port district, the police announced on Twitter asking citizens to avoid the ares. A vehicle rammed into two bus shelters, local media reports.

UPDATE: The mini-van used in the attack seems to have been stolen, local media reports. Also, the man in custody is reportedly known for having psychiatric issues.

UPDATE: According to French media, the driver is a 35 year-old man, not known to security forces but known by the police for common offences. He was driving a white Renault Espace, witnesses say.

UPDATE: La Provence cites sources saying that a 42 year-old woman has been killed in the incident. It also reports that a 29-year-old woman was also injured when the van hit the bus stop in the Croix-Rouge neighbourhood.

UPDATE: According to France 3, the driver first hit a bus stop in the 13th arrondissement of Marseille, without making a victim. Then he targeted another stop, situated on the Charles Livon, in the 11th arrondissement. A perimeter has been put in place and the area has been evacuated.

UPDATE: Police sources confirmed for Reuters that one person has died and another one was injured in the incident. Law officials also said that they do not have information regarding the motives behind the incident.
