Michelle Carter, a woman from Massachusetts, was sentenced to prison after she convinced her boyfriend to kill himself.

The young woman talked with her boyfriend and sent him over a dozen text messages in order to determine him to kill himself. On Thursday, she was sentenced to fifteen months in prison. Michelle Carter was also sentenced to five years of probation.

Carter was only seventeen and her boyfriend Conrad Roy was eighteen when she told him to follow through with his suicidal talk.

The text messages read “The time is right and you are ready … just do it babe,” is what she texted him on the day that he had killed himself.

More text messages read “You can’t think about it”. “You just have to do it”. “You said that you were gonna do it”. “Like I don’t get why you aren’t,” she had send in other text messages. She even told him to get back inside his truck and fill it with carbon monoxide.

Taunton County Judge Lawrence Moniz granted her a defense motion that would keep Carter out of jail until her appeals are used. Carter is now twenty years old and was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in June.
