Louisiana assistant police chief resigns over racist social media post

Officer Wayne Welsh of the Estherwood Police Department, posted a cartoon depicting a white mother drowning her daughter for having a “crush on a Negro boy.”

Assistant Police Chief Wayne Welsh’s law enforcement career ended abruptly after a racist social media post went viral.

The cartoon in question depicts a white mother apparently drowning her daughter.

The viral post enraged residents of Estherwood, Louisiana and they called the police department and City Hall to inquire about the post and the departments response to it, ABC affiliate KATC reports.

Office Welsh took down the offending post and offered an apology.

Well, I posted something on Facebook that made a lot of people mad.Well, I’m sorry for what happen. Ya have a blessed day.

It is interesting to note that he also defend his post saying “Its (sic) not against the. Law if you share stuff on. Facebook. Its (sic). Social media. Internet.”

This is not the first time that Officer Welsh has shared racist cartoons on social media. On July 30th, 2017, he shared a cartoon on Facebook of several Muslim women dressed in burqas outside a restaurant. The caption read “Someone left trash bags out on the street in front of the store again!”

Officer Welsh frequently posts about his support for President Trump (R), guns, and police issues. He resigned Tuesday, August 1st, 2017.
