Two US soldiers killed in Afghanistan identified

Pentagon says that the two US Army soldiers who were killed during an attack on NATO convey in Kandahar , Afghanistan have been identified.

On Thursday officials announced that sergeant Jonathon Michael Hunter ,23 , of Indiana and Christopher Michael Harris ,25 , of North Carolina were killed when their convey came under attack in Afghanistan’s Kandahar province .Both were assigned to 82nd Airborne Division in Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

According to Pentagon statement two U.S service members were killed while four others injured.

Col. Toby Magsig said ” Harris was an extraordinary young man and a phenomenal Paratrooper,” He further added ” He regularly displayed the type of courage . discipline , and empathy that the nation expects from its warriors.”

The colonel added ” hunter was the leader we all want to work for , he was strong , decisive, compassionate and courageous. He was revered by his Para troopers and respected throughout his unit.”

These deaths bring the total casualties of U.S. service members in Afghanistan to nine this year so far .

There are currently 8,500 U.S troops in Afghanistan and the Pentagon is considering sending nearly 4,000 more U.S soldiers to Afghanistan for the training of afghan Army and police.
