Trump set to begin 17-day long vacation

Despite expressing his distaste for presidential vacations in the past, particularly against the Obama Administration, Trump is all set to go on a 17-day long vacation this Friday.

President Trump will begin a 17-day long vacation this Friday at his private golf club in New Jersey, according to the Associated Press. Trump has frequented his New Jersey golf club several times in recent months. Already receiving backlash for spending too many weekends at the majority of his resorts in Florida, Virginia, and New Jersey, he is not letting that stop him from spending a lengthy vacation in Bedminster, New Jersey.

Since assuming office as the president, Trump has visited a Trump owned property nearly every weekend. Many ethics experts have probed Trump’s travels to his resort properties as advertisements for the Trump brand. The irony of his travels is that Trump has always been a substantial critic of presidential vacations himself. In a Tweet in August 2014, Trump tweeted: “While Obama vacations, golfs, attends parties & jazz concerts, ISIS is chopping heads off of journalists.” During his presidential campaign, Trump told also voters: “I would rarely leave the White House because there’s so much work to be done. I would not be a president who took vacations. I would not be a president that takes time off.” Similarly, speaking with CBS’ 60 Minutes only days after his election, Trump also decreed, “there’s just so much to be done….So I don’t think we’ll be very big on vacations, no.”

Not only has the president not made good on his promise to not take “too many” vacations, Trump has already spent more on his vacations than Obama did during his entire eight years as president. According to a report from CNN, Trump is estimated to have spent more than $20 million during his first 80 days as president on trips to his Florida resort alone.
