People mourn after tragic accident at San Antonio Walmart
Citizens create memorial after horrific human smuggling tragedy that led to 10 deaths, and 29 injuries.
San Antonio, TX – Originally reported by KENS 5 San Antonio, On July 23 San Antonio Police Department confirmed multiple bodies that were located inside a trailer at a Walmart parking lot.
At the time of arrival police immediately detained the driver, later being identified as James Matthew Bradley Jr., 60.
The officers found 39 bodies. As of right now the death toll is at 10. According to the Department of Justice, all deceased were male, however no names are released as of yet.
Those who obtained injury are currently being held at the Central Texas Detention Facility.
On Monday, July 24, Bradley was officially charged with 1 count of transporting illegal aliens. According to a press release released by ICE, “Upon conviction, the offense is punishable by life imprisonment or death, a $250,000 fine, and three years of supervised release.”
According to U.S. Immigration, and Customs Director Thomas Homan, there was a high possibility of the truck having up to 100 people.
According to San Antonio Police Cheif William McManus, It is safe to believe that this tragedy was part of an smuggling operation.
Local citizens have been up in arms at the horrific tragedy, and created a memorial where the trailer was found.
Local citizen, Diana Torres, visited the site. Torres expressed deep remorse for those who passed, Torres stated, “It was a great tragedy what these people had to experience. They just wanted a better life for their families.”
According to ICE.gov, in 2016 ICE removed 240,255 people.
