Nestlé UK to slash almost 300 jobs to increase competitiveness

Nestlé UK announced that it will be slashing just under 300 jobs in order to increase competitiveness and factory efficiency.

Nestlé UK announced that it will be starting to make some changes at the company’s  factory operations within  the UK. Starting with 2017 and until 2018, the company will be reducing 298 roles, predominantly at its sites in York and Fawdon but factories in Halifax and Girvan will also be affected. According to Nestlé, the reduction will be achieved mainly through voluntary redundancies.

The manufacturer also announced that it will be relocating its Blue Riband production form Fawdon to Poland, so as to simplify operations at the UK site. The company also said that the changes will include amended and standardised shift patters at each of the four mentioned factories.

The reason behind the changes is to ensure that the UK  sites operate more efficiently and remain competitive in a rapidly changing external environment, the company said in a statement.

The proposals will be discussed with trade unions and employee representatives.

In the UK and Ireland, Nestlé operates 20 sites, and employs 8000 people, according to the company’s website.
