Nigel Farage sued by anti-racism group for up to £100k
Nigel Farage is being sued for up to £100,000, after he accused anti-racism group, Hope not Hate, of pursuing “violent and undemocratic means”, according to Metro report.
The group Hope not Hate filed a libel claim at the high court which includes an injunction to stop the former UKIP leader repeating the comments, according to The Observer.
Farange invoked the group while answering on a show to a tweet coming from Brendan Cox, the widower of the murdered MP Jo Cox which accused him of being an extremist.
The 53-year-old said : ‘Yes, well of course he would know more about extremists than me, Mr Cox. He backs organisations like Hope not Hate, who masquerade as being lovely and peaceful, but actually pursue violent and undemocratic means.’
The chief executive of Hope not Hate says the group asked Farange to retract he comments and apologize.
Nick Lowles said: ‘We are an avowedly peaceful organisation and Nigel Farage’s lies are deeply damaging to the vital work we do bringing communities together across cultural and religious divides. We know that losing this case won’t hurt Nigel Farage financially. He is a millionaire former City stockbroker with a personal backer worth £100m and a billionaire cheerleader in the White House. This case is not about money – this is about telling the truth.’
