General election 2017: Jeremy Corbyn „would be a risk to national security”, says defence secretary
If Jeremy Corbyn wins the General Election on June 8 and becomes Prime Minister, he would put UK’s security at risk, warned the Defense Secretary.
The Labour leader called into question the party’s commitment to the Trident nuclear deterrent. Sir Michael Fallon criticized Corbyn for suggesting that he would be reluctant to authorize a drone strike on the leader of the Islamic State.
The Secretary of Defense also said these comments are “irresponsible” and the possibility of suspending RAF attacks against the extremists in Iraq and Syria showed that the Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn “would be a risk to national security”, says defence secretary
Sir Michael told ITV’s Good Morning Britain: “I think you saw Jeremy Corbyn yesterday questioning strikes against terrorists, refusing to back the nuclear deterrent, he’s been querying our NATO deployment and he seems to have fallen out with his own party over the nuclear deterrent.”
“That’s chaos, but it’s very dangerous chaos that would put the security of our country at risk.”
