New pepper so hot it could kill you
The new Dragon’s Breath chili can kill you with its hotness. However, it is intended to help, not hurt, when used in medical treatments, according to Tree Hugger.
The current record for the hottest pepper belongs to the Carolina Reaper, which rates at around 1.6 million Scoville heat units. A humble jalapeno rates at 2,500 – 5,000 in the heat scale.
Recently, Mike Smith, a plant grower from Denbigshire Wales, in collaboration with Nottingham Trent University, has grown a pepper that is so hot that could lead to some type of anaphylactic shock in novice eaters by burning the airways and closing them up, according to the Daily Post.

Dragon’s Breath chili measures over 2.48 million on the Scoville scale. In comparison, US military pepper sprays measure around 2 million.
Despite its lethal characteristics, this chili was developed to help. It could be used as an anaesthetic for its numbing properties, helping those who are allergic to certain drugs.
Another use involves exporting it to countries with limited access or funds for pharmaceutical anaesthetics. “This was developed because a lot of people are allergic to anaesthetic, and this can be applied to the skin because it is so strong it numbs it,” says Smith.
Smith has already signed the pepper up for a Guinness World Record, currently waiting for confirmation that Dragon’s Breath is truly the hottest in the world.
