This is what happens to a baby’s brain when shaken. It might shock you

Giving in to frustration and shaking your baby’s head might have devastating effects on his brain, according to a German research.

A German company created a simulation doll that would showcase the effects on a baby’s brain resulted from a parent shaking the child’s head. The results were not positive at all, further emphasising the statistics that state one in four babies will die as a result of being shaken.

Furthermore, even if he doesn’t die, the baby might still suffer from seizures, vomiting, tremors and can even end up paralysed, among others.

“What happens in cases of traumatic brain injury is complex and very difficult to study. In addition, the cause of specific brain injury is not always clear. Of course, babies should never be shaken because what we do know is that when a baby is shaken, their brain can impact on the inside of the skull, and tears in brain tissue, blood vessels and nerves can occur. This can lead to serious and long-lasting symptoms, including death,” stated Dr Geoff Debelle, an officer for child protection at the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health.
