New vaccine to help 50 million people diagnosed every year with acne
Scientists are developing a vaccine that would soon help the 50 million people diagnosed every year with acne.
The vaccine targets the P. acnes bacteria, one of the main causes of acne, Fast Company reports.
Researchers finally identified the problem that triggers acne
“Acne is caused, in part, by P. acnes bacteria that are with you your whole life — and we couldn’t create a vaccine for the bacteria because, in some ways, P. acnes are good for you. But we found an antibody to a toxic protein that P. acnes bacteria secrete on skin — the protein is associated with the inflammation that leads to acne.” explained lead researcher Eric C. Huang, from University of California, San Diego.
10 things to be aware of around someone suffering from acne
For the moment the vaccine is in the testing phase and it will be for the next two years, but expectations are high that acne could soon be a bad memory of the past.
