Eating healthy for the summer
With summer around the corner it’s time to let your kids run lose, create memories. Let’s not forget those summer parties, cookouts, and beach bodies. It makes you wonder, can you still be healthy when the temptation of summer comes around.
“The average American now eats roughly 193 pounds of beef, pork and/or chicken a year (or more than 3.7 pounds a week), up from roughly 184 pounds in 2012,” according to Marketwatch.com. That’s a lot of meat when you think about it. Although that’s a large portion of meat you can still eat healthy. A lot of people think that eating healthy is just eating nuts and berries and having no meat in your diet. You can still eat what you want over, and not regret it.
Best way to eat all your favorite foods is to grill them. Summer gives you the perfect opportunity to do so. “There are many lean cuts of meat that are easy to grill, including lamb tenderloin, strip steak, flank and rib eye. Nutritionally, red meats like beef and lamb are packed with protein, iron, zinc, and B vitamins such as niacin, vitamin B-6 and vitamin B-12,” according to Toby Amidor writer for FoodNetwork.com. There are supplemental values to grilling your meats. It’s all about taking that extra step to pick the best types of meats and cooking them properly.
Let’s not forget about the fruits and vegetables. LivingDircet.com list 10 Healthy Tips & Benefits of Grilling. They list vegetables at number 2. “Most people don’t realize that vegetables retain more of their vitamins and minerals when they’re grilled. This is especially true with veggies that have a low water content.” You can also grill some of your fruits. It sound little crazy, but it’s pretty healthy. They are used in the same way as vegetables, most of the time to add flavor to your meat.
