The character trait that will bring you happiness every day

All the self-help books and movies can’t seem to get us closer to contentment. The key element in achieving happiness is much simpler and isn’t found in a book.

A recent study published in the Nature Journal showed that splashing cash on someone else will make you feel better in the long-run. For the study, one group of participants were told to generously spend money on something nice for someone else, while another group were told to spend money on themselves.

Despite being poorer, the selfless group were the happier participants, according to the Independent. During the experiment, ares of their brain gave off a warm glow when they felt rewarded for being nice to other people. Furthermore, it doesn’t matter how generous the act is, as they all generate the same degree of happiness.

You don’t need to become a self-sacrificing martyr to feel happier. Just being a little more generous will suffice,” lead researcher Philippe Tobler said in a statement to Psychology Today.
