The secret to brewing the perfect cup of tea
According to Dr. Stuart Farrimond, an expert in the science of making tea, we have been brewing our tea wrong this whole time.
First of all, you need to brew the tea for exactly five minutes for the tea to reach its full taste potential. This way, the tea is fully caffeinated, has boosted health benefits and naturally releases more antioxidants.
Apart from this, you should never drink from a Styrofoam cup. “It absorbs the flavour molecules, reducing the tastiness of the tea”, Farrimond said in a new series of Inside the Factory aired on BBC Two.
For those living in areas with hard water, the doctor suggested using a filter to remove the calcium and magnesium residue, which should prevent scum from forming at the surface of the drink, according to the Independent.
Surprisingly, the colour of the mug you drink from can affect the taste of the tea. If you prefer your tea sweet, opt for red or pink, as they will accentuate the tea’s natural sweetness. White or blue mugs bring out the salty notes in your tea.
