Why not take advantage of this and make it a fun experience? You don’t really have much of a choice anyway because no matter what you do you will still end up in the same situation.

According to dailymail.co.uk, during the summer, New York Subway platforms get so sweltering they feel like a sauna. With that in mind, one group of pranksters took advantage of the heat and opened up an unauthorized spa alongside the trains.

The ‘Subway Spa,’ which was in business only a few hours, was created by Improv Everywhere – the same group responsible for the No Pants Subway Ride – at the Herald Square Station on 34th Street in Manhattan. The temperature on the platform during the prank: 95degrees.

Actors wearing towels sat in the ‘sauna’ seats, which were actually just the station’s regular seats, as more actors in crisp white uniforms offered passersby hot stone massages, lemon-infused water, towels, and access to a ‘misting station.’

Most people looked completely perplexed by the spa, and just stared, laughed or took pictures. Others were braver: They marched right up to the actors and took advantage of the offerings.

According to Improv Everywhere’s site, one man received every treatment, and even changed into a robe, as his family waited for him in the heat.

Another woman hopped up on to the massage table where the ‘therapist,’ who had ‘no training whatsoever,’ aligned stones over her back and appeared to gently press on them.

A few men took off their shirts to take full advantage of the misting station, where four actors sprayed water onto them as they stood on a teak board.

The group seemed to take every detail into account. They made magnets and put them over the the Subway’s existing signage, so all signs said ’34 Spa.’ The ’employees’ all wore matching white uniforms that said ‘Subway Spa’ on the shirt.

They even put a wooden container of sauna rocks next to the seated actors, where one of the ’employees’ poured water over them.

Improv Everywhere’s founder, Charlie Todd, said he chose NRQ platform at Herald Square because he believes it is the most miserable spot in the city.

‘When I lived in Queens, the NRQ 34th St platform was my mortal enemy, its sticky heat making those late nights waiting for the train seem even longer,’ he said. ‘To me it feels hotter than any other platform in the system.’

The team was given pause by the police only once. Though Mr Todd said the officers laughed as they approached, they did say the prank would have to stop if any complaints were reported. He assured them they’d be packed up soon.

Mr Todd started Improv Everywhere in 2001 to ’cause scenes of chaos and joy in public spaces.’ As of now, they have performed more than 100 pranks, or ‘missions’ as they call them, including getting hundreds of people to freeze in Grand Central and staging a fake U2 concert.
