VIDEO: Spouses Celebrate 20th Anniversary in Hospital

Scott Chafian and his wife, Cindy, had a… let’s call it “unique” 20th anniversary. They spent it in a hospital and it was absolutely perfect! Instead of roses, jewelry or chocolate as presents, this doting husband decided to give his longtime partner his kidney. Cindy had been suffering from polycystic kidney disease and she had been on dialysis for two years. Her left kidney had been removed, and her right one was shutting down, so her only hope was a transplant. The only thing left to do was find a donor. And what do you know? The perfect match had been there all along – her husband!
“I would say if I was able to get dinner on the table for my family that was a good day,” Cindy told WTKR. All of that was about to change. The two were brought into the operating room and the surgery lasted over four hours. News 3’s Kim Cung caught up with the couple the day after their surgery.
“Just the difference already, just the light she’s got back in her eyes. I don’t even have words for it,” said Scott.
“Aside from what pain I have, I feel better already and we’re just one day in. So I am extremely optimistic this is going to be an amazing outcome. I’m excited,” said Cindy.
Although they didn’t plan this special anniversary in advance, they couldn’t have been happier with the way things turned out.
“The surgery went well, the staff has been absolutely phenomenal. We’re both feeling good,” said Scott.
“I can’t think of any better place to be right now. If I had the choice to be here or in the Bahamas, I’d totally be here,” said Cindy laughing.
Cindy is now looking forward to having a life again, being a mother and a wife. Filled with emotion, she stated for Inside Edition that she doesn’t believe she will ever be able to fully show her appreciation for what her husband has done for her.
Their children are also excited to have their healthy, happy mother back. They gave each of their parents a tight hug before they were taken into surgery and patiently waited for them to wake up afterwards.
This certain situation is one that most people probably can’t relate to, as it is a rare case, but the love between these two people is, hopefully, very relatable and one that we can all admire. It is the perfect example of TRUE LOVE. Scott and Cindy’s story just goes to show, first of all, that health is more important than anything else in life. If you are healthy, you can do anything. You will be able to move mountains if you set your mind to. Secondly, it proves once again, that everything is easier with someone by your side. We all need help sometimes. We all need other people, as we cannot live alone. Love might actually be the reason for life, as well as the purpose of it, the purpose of why we are all here.
