VIDEO: Puppies Help Boy Lost in the Woods
Rosemarie Camp from Hackleburg, northwestern Alabama, went through what she described as her worst nightmare recently. Her 10-year-old son, Kyle, had been missing for more than 15 hours, when the entire community started looking for him. His mom’s fears were justifiable, as Kyle has Down syndrome. Unfortunately, their efforts were unsuccessful. Amazingly enough, the family pooch was the one who found the boy, 1.5 miles into the woods. Shoeless and coatless, he was among the pooch’s four furry pups, who’d been keeping him warm.
Dogs have an absolutely incredible sense of smell! According to pets4homes.co.uk, they developed their superior sense of smell over the course of their evolution, as it forms an important survival and food-finding mechanism for all dogs and wolves. Scents can inform your dog of nearby threats, other animals and people, and where other dogs have passed by and scent marked. They can also pick up pheromone cues from other dogs

This story is a beautiful example of a strong bond between a boy and his dogs. The best part is the very happy outcome.
Mom, Rosemarie Camp of Hackleburg in northwestern Alabama, went through what she described as her worst nightmare recently. “I just got a little taste of what so many families go through,” she said.
Her 10-year-old son Kyle was missing for more than 15 hours. Kyle has Downs syndrome and his mom’s fears were justifiable.
He doesn’t usually leave the home area but this time, he did. The family dog gave birth to four pups recently and the puppies apparently ventured out into the woods with Kyle as well.
When one mom discovered her son was missing, word spread quickly and an entire community came together as the Marion County Sheriff’s Department, Hackleburg police force, surrounding fire departments and the Cullman State Trooper helicopter assisted in the search. At one point, an estimated 150 volunteers were helping to look for the boy.
Unfortunately, their efforts throughout the night were not successful. The next day a, special rescuer got involved.
Canines are well known for their keen sense of smell as well as their ability to connect with other canines. In this case, it was the family pooch trying to re-connect with her pups which hopefully would lead to Kyle.
Amazingly the dog headed toward the rescuers and went beyond them. The dog was followed for over 1.5 miles into the woods until the discovery everyone had hoped for was made.
The young boy, shoeless and coatless was found among the four furry pups. No doubt they kept Kyle warm throughout the chilly night.
Kyle only suffered a few bruises and scrapes but he seems like a “tough cookie.” Everyone was well aware that the situation could’ve ended much worse.
Rosemarie was very thankful for the help the family received and the fact her boy was found. “I’m just so grateful,” she heartwarmingly said.
It’s unfortunate that Kyle had to endure the scary, dark and cold night in the woods. He was a blessed boy to have loving people help find him, a faithful dog, and a warm blanket made up of four cute pups.
