Flying with a newborn can be extremely difficult sometimes.
Whitney Poyntz and her husband were flying to Calgary, Canada, from Palm Springs, California, last month when their 4-month-old daughter, Kennedi, was having a hard time. Thankfully, a kind flight attendant stepped in to save the day when she noticed the couple was stressed about the baby crying.
The couple didn’t see this situation coming at all. Their daughter woke up once or twice during the flight from a restful slumber but went right back to sleep. However, at one point she suddenly woke up and unexpectedly threw a complete tantrum.
“Not sure if it was gas or maybe pressure but we did not have a happy baby, unfortunately those seats aren’t made for rocking or trying to put a baby back to sleep,” Poyntz said. “Eyes glaring, sweat dripping down our foreheads trying to get her back to sleep.”
Many of us have been in this situation and could only hope that we could have experienced what happened next. The WestJet flight attendant, Ashley Drysdale, approached the couple and made an offer they couldn’t refuse.
She asked if she could take baby Kennedi and walk her up and down the aisle while the parents took a little break. Unsure at first, the parents agreed, and the selfless flight attendant cradled the infant and quickly calmed her down.
“Now it may not seem like a lot,” Poyntz wrote, “but the experience was amazing. Never would I ever think someone would ever do that, volunteer to take your screaming child, but she did.”
With all the crazy stories that have been in the news lately about disrespectful flight attendants, it is so nice to see that our flight experience can be worry free thanks to helpful employees. Naturally, the parents had to post about the encounter on Facebook to share the good deed.
“Westjet (Ashley) I would like to thank you for the over and above customer service (baby whispering) that you gave, truly the greatest airline,” Poyntz wrote. This airline should recognize the amazing service their employee was able to provide.
Whether you have been in this situation yourself or witnessed it on a flight, you know that this is taking customer service to a new standard. Ashley set the bar extremely high for other flight attendants.
It is so great to see such a direct act of kindness! Ashley saw people in need and did everything she could to help our a few hard-working parents. Her actions completely changed the flight experience for these parents and contributed to giving WestJet a great reputation.
