“Undercover Boss” is a popular TV show where CEOs of big companies go undercover to see how different departments of their company work. Many times, they meet employees who are hard workers and they end up surprising them with a reward. That’s exactly what happened to a woman named Angel. She was told she would be training a new associate, but she had no idea that the “associate” was actually Mitchell Modell, CEO of Modell’s, the company she worked for! While they were working, Angel told Mitchell about some of the struggles she had dealt with. When he finally revealed himself, he gave her a $14,000 raise and a tax-free check for $250,000. Is he the world’s greatest boss or what?!

Angel arrived at work, thinking it was just like any other day. She worked as an employee at Modell’s Sporting Goods. When she arrived, she was tasked with the job of training a new associate. Little did she know, this new associate was actually Modell’s CEO Mitchell Modell, and Angel was a subject on the TV show, Undercover Boss.

Angel was convinced that she was being filmed as part of a documentary.

For those of you who have not seen Undercover Boss before, I encourage you to watch it. It’s one of my favorite shows on television because of the great things that happen on it. In the show, CEOs of some of the country’s biggest companies go undercover to see what working for them is really like. They want to understand how entry-level people are treated and whether or not they enjoy what they are doing. While some employees get fired for misbehaving and lack of effort, most of them come away with raises because the CEOs believe they deserve better.

The video below is a clip from the episode involving Angel. In it, she gives Mitchell a pep talk about her life and her experience at Modell’s.

Angel confesses to an undercover Modell, “I love this job… but it hasn’t always been this way.” When she turned 25, Angel became pregnant and lost her job as a restaurant manager.

“We’ve been homeless for a longtime. We live in a shelter now,” the single mother continues. “It doesn’t matter, though. I don’t want you to feel sad for me.”

Sometimes in life, all we need is a helping hand to help us get back on our feet.

Angel didn’t know it, but she was actually confessing to the one man in the company who could change her entire life. Mitchell came away from the experience feeling appalled that his company didn’t pay their employees enough to afford a home and shelter.

In the end, Mitchell revealed his true identity, and he tells Angel who he really is. He then gives her a $14,000 raise. On top of that, he gives her a tax-free check for $250,000. This is incredible, and I was moved to tears by Angel’s reaction.
