Bobby was in bad condition when he ran into Aaron Page, an officer with the City of Rome, NY Police Department. His facial hair was overgrown, scruffy, and matted. Though his clothes seemed to be in pretty decent condition, you could tell they had been worn for a very long time. He was obviously homeless, and after holding a nice little conversation with Page, he decided it was time for a change.
“Bobby said he’d love a haircut and warm shower,” according to the department’s Facebook post about the sweet story. Page would soon make his wish happen with the help of three other colleagues. The officer invited his new friend over to the station the next morning and got him all set up for a new makeover. Sgt. Frank Fragapane, George Gebo, Jeff Buckley were also there to greet Bobby. The first step was to give Bobby a whole new outfit. After his refreshing shower, they used a holding cell to get him changed into a nice pair of khaki jeans, a casual button up shirt, and red sneaks. Next, Page and his buddies took Bobby outside into one of their garages to cut his hair.
All four officers took turns clipping and snipping his gray locks away. Bobby’s hair was styled into a nice buzz cut, similar to some of the officer’s hair styles. His beard was also completely shaved and neatly trimmed. Now, you could see the real person who was hiding underneath all that hair. Bobby was cleaned up into a handsome fellow. Before leaving the station, the cops had another gift for Bobby — a Nike bag full of donated clothes.
“Bobby left looking like a whole new person and couldn’t thank us enough,” the department wrote. Pictures of the heartwarming moment were shared to the department’s page. The photo album, comprised of 18 snapshots, have received nearly 20,000 likes and over 2,000 comments. While most of the responses praised the cops for their good deed, one commenter, in particular, wanted to know why they didn’t take Bobby to a local barbershop instead. The department replied, “…due to the time of day, the condition of his hair and we each have experience cutting hair it was just more feasible for us to do it.”
By the looks of it, Bobby and everyone else was impressed by the officers’ work. One person wrote: “Thank you for your kindness and compassion! And when these guys are ready to retire from police work, I know an awesome salon that would love to hire them …. nice skills!”
In a world full of selfishness, it’s nice to see people use their talents for good. Thanks to a few skillful police officers, Bobby now has a new lease on life and a new look to show to the world.
