Animals are a beautiful part of our world. Out in the wild, however, they can often find themselves in danger. And sometimes, when an entire species is in danger, they find themselves in sanctuaries or parks where they can be cared for instead.
These animals are tended to by a caretaker who usually stays with them for years. You may or may not be surprised to learn that this can create an incredible, lasting bond between the two of them.
Any animal, from a lions and tigers to elephants or monkeys, can become accustomed to interacting with humans, eventually learning from and with them.
Through all of the training, healing, and day-to-day tasks, they become friends and, in some ways, family.
In the video below, we get to look in on an elephant in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The elephant, Thongsri, is 17 years old and has clearly formed a very serious bond with her caretaker.
You can see it right away, when the caretaker and another man decide to fake an altercation.
As the caretaker is pushed to the ground and apparently “attacked,” Thongsri comes running toward them to rescue her caretaker. The man pretending to attack him runs away and Thongrsi ends up circling her caretaker to make sure that he stays unharmed.
Talk about a great bodyguard, right?
