They were great together, but when the time came, they chose different career paths and relocated to different locations for college. They lost touch and they each married colleagues from their respective schools. They both had happy marriages and, unfortunately, they both had to deal with the terrible loss of their significant other. One day, Jim decided to give a call to his first love and ask her if she wanted to help plan their high school reunion. Once they started talking again, they didn’t want to stop. Over six decades later, the flame that first ignited their love was still there. They got married at 81 years old. They were brought back together after what for some people is a lifetime! Sixty-four years ago, high school sweethearts Joyce Kevorkian and Jim Bowman went to school prom together and first starting dating. They’ve been dating since junior high school years in Illinois, back in the early 1950s. Years passed by, and both chose different career paths and relocated to a different location to go study in college.
The lost touch of each other and met a spouse at their respective colleges. Both Joyce and Jim were happily married for years and started their own family. Unfortunately, both of them had do deal with a terrible loss of their significant other.
One day, Jim, who resides in Illinois again, decided he would give a call to his first love and ask her if she wanted to help plan their high school reunion. Once the two started talking again, they didn’t want to stop. Jim and Joyce met once again, over six decades later, and the flame that first ignited their love was still there. Jim and Joyce sparked the life into each other again.
“My grandma had been very sad since my grandpa passed away five years ago, but when she started talking to Jim, she turned back into her old self,” said Joyce’s granddaughter Anna to the Washington Post. “When I’d call her up, she had a lot of things she wanted to tell me about her life ― she had things to look forward to again.”
The two even decided to get married again. Both 81-years old, Joyce and Jim gave each other their vows op April 1st in Indiana. “It was a really heartwarming ceremony,” said Anna. “The best man and maid of honor (me!) gave little speeches and then the two lovebirds left for their honeymoon.”
“It’s almost like she is 17 again. When Jim proposed, she didn’t hesitate one bit and she has been so, so happy ever since. To me, Jim isn’t really replacing my grandpa, he’s giving me my grandma back.”
They say that you always remember your first love, and Jim and Joyce are definitely living proof of that.
