VIDEO: Ellen Offers A Deaf Woman An Incredible Gift

Up until recently, Sarah was completely deaf. This mother of two was born with a condition that kept the hairs in her middle ears from properly forming. This meant that because of this lack of hairs in her ear she couldn’t hear.
Sarah Churman is a 34-year-old woman who was born deaf – one of the .38 percent of Americans over 5 years old who were born deaf, in America over the age of five, to have lived with such a disability.
Can you imagine that – making it to the age of 34 without ever being able to hear great music or your loved ones vocalizing how much they love you?
However, after over three decades of living under such circumstances, Churman was granted a gift unlike any other – the chance to hear. She refers to the experience as being “Powered On.” That’s the name of her 2012 book, which boasts a 4.8 star rating on GoodReads.

According to davidwolfe.com, the mother had a hard time living with this condition but never gave up.“For you mothers out there, it was like that moment where time stands still as your baby slips into this world,” Churman describes in her blog post “My EAR in His hEARt.”
Churman tells of the day her life changed forever. When she received her very first hearing device, she could hear for the first time in 34 years.
What’s incredibly remarkable about this whole experience (as if it was not remarkable enough) is that Churman’s mother in law Lari showed incredible kindness by cashing out on her retirement funds so Churman could have the procedure done.

But this is when their very own angel came into the picture, Sarah’s mother-in-law, Lari, paid for the first hearing device using her retirement savings.

She would need several implants that should be changed often so that she can continue to hear as she has for the past eight days.

In her show, Ellen didn’t just bring Sarah and her husband, but also Lari, the mother in law, who made everything possible. Lari actually paid for the entire thing by cashing in her retirement funds and spending them all on Sarah.

The woman wasn’t really wealthy, but she was willing to gamble everything just that she could help her daughter-in-law because she loved her so much. Ellen wanted to let the woman know just how amazing she is and how wonderful her gesture was. But that wasn’t all, she also wanted to help them further.

Ellen DeGeneres stepped in and arranged for the company that supplied Sarah with the original implant to give her the next one for free and also pay her back the $30,000 that her mother-in-law had given her for the first one.

This means that Sarah has an implant, and the next implant ready to go and the family also has the additional 30.000 dollars to use on another implant or to pay back the mother-in-law. They have plenty of possibilities and they can choose whatever they think is best.

After Ellen’s producers heard about Lari’s involvement, they decided they had to have her, too. The moment they shared in Ellen’s studio is pretty special, but what’s remarkable is how it ends.
